Project Coordinator - Temporary and Part-time (20 hours/week)

Background
This position will serve as a project coordinator for an NIH-funded pilot study examining the use of a mentoring afterschool program to improve adolescent and young adult mental health. In this program young adults (e.g., college students) are trained to mentor adolescents in an afterschool program based on behavioral activation principles to improve adolescent depression symptoms. This feasibility trial is a mixed methods study and will include both qualitative (focus groups, interviews) and quantitative data (process data, surveys, accelerometry).

This position (20 hours/week) is a 8-9 month position, with an anticipated start date around October 1st, 2024 and an anticipated end date of June 15, 2024. The position will pay $21.33/hour.

Duties/Responsibilities
Study recruitment & implementation (15%)

• Assist with developing and implementing protocols for engaging community partners in research and research recruitment
• Monitor, identify, and address any issues that may impact recruitment and implementation of research activities
• Coordinate with community partners regarding day-to-day logistics of research projects

Coordinate research team (15%)

• Work with PI and research team to coordinate tasks related to recruitment and training of project interns (e.g., hiring procedures, payroll/managing timecards, recruitment material development)
• Provide training and technical assistance to student research assistants related to recruitment and data collection activities
• Work with PI to schedule, facilitate, and plan team meetings

Data collection & management (70%)

• Follow research protocols to collect mixed methods data (accelerometry, focus groups/interviews, survey data, observational fidelity data, process data)
• Follow research protocols to manage data collected
• Assist with data cleaning and analysis as appropriate
• Collaborate with research team to prepare dissemination materials for scientific and public audiences (manuscripts, presentations, reports)

Work arrangements:

This role needs to be able to attend afterschool programming in community locations in the Twin Cities metro area and inner-ring suburbs from 2:30-3:30pm Monday-Fridays. The role may also require occasional early morning or evening hours for recruitment events. Almost all the work in this position will occur in-person in the office or in the field.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 4 years.
• Experience with grant-based work requirements, such as developing and following work plans and protocols, reporting requirements and federal financial policies and procedures
• Experience conducting community outreach, including engaging and following through with diverse stakeholders
• Experience with developing and implementing data collection protocols and manuals.
• Previous experience with project management related to data collection and database development
• Proficiency in basic computer programs including Word, Acrobat, Powerpoint, and Excel
• Able to work a variable work schedule, including afternoon availability to attend after school programming and occasional morning/evening availability for recruitment events
• Valid driver's license, current insurance and personal vehicle to be used for work purposes (project will reimburse for gas/mileage per UMN policy)
• Professional oral and written communication style
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and planning skills.
• Comfort with and sensitivity to many lifestyles, cultures, and communities

Preferred:

• Experience with school-based health programming
• Experience with qualitative research (e.g., focus groups, interviews)
• Experience with accelerometry
• Master's degree in Public Health or Behavioral Health-related field
• Fluent in Spanish (spoken and written)
• Ability to develop, train and manage staff who have individual learner needs, preferences, and backgrounds
• Experience assisting in the development of intervention materials
• Familiarity with IRB submissions and reporting

The School of Public Health Division of Epidemiology & Community Health focuses on disease and health in various populations. Our faculty and students examine the distribution, cause and prevention of diseases, and how human behavior affects overall health.
