As an integral part of our organization, you'll play a crucial role in the Life Support and Systems Projects section in the Engineering Department on the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology and Science II (JETS II) Contract.

**International travel may be required. Straight time overtime, 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off), and/or 1 day of telework per week may be available**

Duties & Responsibilities

SOME OF YOUR MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

• Perform hardware design and testing for Life Support Systems (LSS) air lab research projects. This position requires knowledge and ability to work in a Research and Development work environment
• Select and apply engineering and systems techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work that are broad in scope and complexity. Assist with systems analysis and modeling functions for these projects
• Generate essential paperwork and documents for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed
• Coordinate with matrix organizations and vendors in test engineering (planning, apparatus design, execution, reporting, troubleshooting, etc.)
• Perform failure troubleshooting and resolution as needed
• Work in a team environment and report to a more senior engineer, project lead, or project manager for technical support, task assignment, and processes (training & implementation)
• Review and evaluate the quantity, quality, and overall adequacy of results and conclusions drawn from accomplishment of engineering tasks
• Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

REQUIRED

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience
• Experience in some or all of the following areas: research laboratory operations, gaseous pressure systems, chemical analysis, mass spectrometry, electrochemical processes, particulate filtration, gas scrubbing, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, oxygen and/or nitrogen systems development, air revitalization systems, life support systems, environmental control systems
• Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical systems including design constraints, safety issues, and operations
• Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, thermal testing, design software and tools, and office software
• Must live in the Houston area or be willing to relocate to the Houston (NASA JSC) area

PREFERRED

• Advanced Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering Degree
• Prior experience with flight hardware or with Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) hardware development
• Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency maybe a requirement for this position.
Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
