The position bears the overall leadership for capital projects wihtin our company starting with the definition of customer requirements and whilst the project implementation to meet project goals according to defined budget, scope and time limits as per approved Capital Appropriation Request and in accordance with the SGL business processes, quality standards and working instructions, applicable local rules and regulations and requirements of property insurer. This compromises all technical, commercial, construction, permit and safety matters during all project phases and it requires to pro-active drive the project.

Position is based in Charlotte, NC; Morganton, NC; St. Mary's, PA

Responsibilities:
  • Full responsibility for the planning and implementation of technical capital projects at international level including leading and steering of scope, budget and timeframe accordingly to the approved CAR
  • Responsible for the regular project monitoring on major schedules (procurement, engineering, construction, etc) , costs, health, safety, and environment issues as well as the pro-active rush review, risk log and risk mitigation over the course of the project implementation
  • Lead assigned project team regarding all needs for implementation (technical and commercial matters) incl. appropriate communication within team and all stakeholders (Steering Committee, Business Unit's, others)
  • Responsible for the regular project reports and regular presentations (SC Meeting and in monthly project reviews)
  • Permanent physical presence at the construction site while construction and as required by other project needs (e.g. engineering, procurement, legal matters, project team coordination, etc)
  • Responsible for preparation and accuracy of CARs (with support of a BU assigned team) including all required supporting documentation (e.g. conceptual design, cost estimates, risk assessment, time schedules)
  • Analyze and determine essential man power for the project (in particular project and subprojectteam power)
  • In close collaboration with other departments responsible for the technical contract conditions/agreements and change order process
  • Ensure technical assistance for installation and commissioning for the installed equipment at the construction site


Your Profile:
  • High provenience in project management including negotiation and contract managerment, commercial project management, cost control, risk management, change order management, engineering, construction and commissioning
  • Minimum 10years experience inengineering
  • Minimum 5years as project manager with full budget responsibility
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (e.g. mechanical, thermal process technology (preferred) or electrical engineering)
  • Project Management Certification (PMP or PRINCE2)
  • Demonstrated leadership experiences in motivating and resolving conflict for project teams
  • Effective communication skills across all levels of an organization
  • High readiness for travel
  • Capable computer skills: Basic knowledge in CAD and SAP, advanced knowledge in PM-Software, SAP and MS Office
