The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

This position is located at the MnDOT Office in Golden Valley. The incumbent will have the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule. The incumbent will be required to report onsite at least once/month but may be required to work onsite more depending on business needs. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

This announcement represents multiple vacancies in two different classifications.Candidates who apply will be considered for the highest level classificationfor which they qualify.

This position will supervise survey operations, assemble and evaluate survey data relating to construction, location, and right of way projects within the district. This position will determine r/w boundary lines, property lines and perform plat retracement & PLS retracement surveys. This position will produce technically precise data and documents consistent with MnDOT standards and policies, as well as State and Federal Laws. This position will also supervise Metro Surveys staff to include: Transportation Specialists, Transportation Generalist/Sr. and Engineering Specialists.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Land Surveyor Senior applicants:
  • Licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

Land Surveyor in Training applicants:
  • Bachelor's degree in land surveying from an ABET accredited college/universityor equivalent.
  • A passing score on the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) exam.
  • Two years of post-graduate level land surveying experience.

Experience at both levels must include:
  • Knowledge of various computer software packages such as MicroStation and other CADD related software.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • A valid Class D Driver's License with NONE of the following: no major traffic convictions in the past 5 years; OR 4 or more minor violations in the last 3 years; OR any combination of minor violations and at-fault accidents totaling 4 or more occurrences.

In addition to the preceding minimum qualifications, you will be assessed on the following if interviewed:
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, multiple tasks and changing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Supervisory and/or leadwork experience
  • Experience in the Public Land Survey system and transportation engineering.
