OhioMHAS operates regional psychiatric hospitals in six locations across the state that operate 365/24/7. Our specialized facilities provide short-term, intensive treatment to patients in both inpatient and community-supported environments. We also deliver comprehensive care to patients committed through the criminal justice system.

What You'll Do:
Assists the Nurse Executive/Director of Nursing in the organization & administration of the Nursing Department, oversees the day-to-day operation of the Nursing Department; plans, directs & evaluates nursing services for all the units on all shifts at the facility; assists the Nurse Executive in developing, implementing & monitoring nursing policies & procedures, quality assurance programs & performance improvement (PI) activities; conducts clinical reviews/investigations to assure appropriateness of patient care/services (e.g., medication, use of restraints or seclusion); collects PI data; resolves problems/concerns which affect treatment &/or service delivery to patients; works with other hospital disciplines (e.g., confers with physicians &/or psychiatrists regarding patient care/treatment) to assure service delivery; intervenes in crisis & emergency situations; review patient records; makes hospital rounds; assures compliance of standards of accrediting agencies (e.g., Joint Commission, Medicare); works with community agencies (e.g., Alcohol, Drug Addiction, Mental Health (ADAMH) Boards, community mental health agencies) & other hospital disciplines (e.g., Community Support Network, social work, psychology) to assure service delivery; utilizes personal computer to complete documents related to treatment; generates reports (e.g., nursing project team) on department activities; reviews & evaluates budgetary needs, determines equipment/supply, staffing & space needs, submits work orders, requests to purchase.
Assists in the development & implementation of PI monitoring & evaluation programs to help minimize risk to patients & staff in a hospital or community environment: identify risks to safety & health & respond pursuant to hospital policy; analyzes & evaluates the quality of Nursing services rendered & recommends/implements plans of correction for services falling below established standards, with emphasis upon patient outcomes; monitors compliance of Nursing Services pertaining to The Joint Commission (TJC), Medicare/Medicaid (CMS) standards as well as other relevant government & legislative bodies standards; makes routine clinical rounds in patient care areas to review patient care services & to confer with & advise nursing supervisors, CNMs & personnel; reviews clinical data & assesses quality & appropriateness of patient care through review of written reports, incident reports, medical records, case conferences & oral discussion.
Supervises nursing staff as assigned, including supervisory & management personnel; monitors work schedules & assignments for nursing staff, assures adequate coverage is maintained; schedules & conducts staff meetings, planning sessions & other activities; conducts annual review of staff performance; recommends activities to achieve goals of performance; develops action plans; counsels employees, as needed; interviews applicants, arranges for necessary testing & recommends for hire; approves/disapproves leave requests; arranges for pertinent orientation of new/current employees; assesses training needs, supports staff training by assisting Nurse Educator in planning & evaluating nursing orientation & continuing education; disciplines employees as needed; documents activities as required by policies/procedures; maintains the Nursing Table of Organization; responsible for nursing recruitment/retention program;
Serves as back-up for Director of Nursing and Clinical Nurse Managers in their absence; will assume the role of Clinical Nurse Manager of assigned units in the event of a vacancy or extended leave of absence.
Chairs, attends &/or participates in meetings as assigned (e.g., nurse review, administrative &/or clinical meetings/activities); participates in mandated training sessions; participates in continuing education training for required CEU's; attends & participates in meetings.

Requires current license as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Revised Code; completion of undergraduate core program in nursing; 36 mos. exp. in psychiatric nursing or delivery of nursing services to persons with developmental disabilities; 18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in supervision; 18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in management; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in counseling; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in public relations. -Or equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience requirements, but not for the mandated licensure.
