Job Duties

This position will based at the Tazewell County Health Department located at 253 Chamber Drive, Tazewell, VA 24651 and will serve the community by providing Outreach services to assist citizens with the Virginia FAMIS Healthcare (Medicaid) enrollment process.

Facilitates service delivery to clients in a health district or other direct service work unit
by interpreting language to staff and clients. Duties typically associated with overall
service delivery are well defined include securing patient history, providing basic health
education, explaining various routine assessments, diagnostic and treatment processes
as well as identifying other social or financial service providers to contact for assistance.
May provide transportation for clients or provide general administrative tasks such as
keyboarding, filing, reception.

1. Clinic Support
• Assists with language interpreting as needed
• Assists in packaging medications for clinician dispensing
• Following a direct protocol, policy or procedure or order from a licensed
provider, provides technical support to professional medical and nursing staff
• May perform patient measurements such as temperature, pulse, blood
pressure, height, weight; collect laboratory specimens
• May collect and label laboratory specimens
• Sterilizes instruments; runs sterilizer controls for sterilizers; cleans and
maintains autoclaves
• Stocks clinical suite and exam rooms
• Provide direct clerical support and assist clients as eligibility technician in
completing appropriate paperwork
2. General Support
• Performs administrative tasks including, but not limited to, answering
telephone, greeting clients, scheduling appointments and providing general
office coverage
• Maintains forms and education material
• Makes copies and prepares client education packets
• Records measurements and lab values in patient records; assists with filing
records; maintains logs, files and records
• May file laboratory copy of lab reports in designated filing system
• May packages dated reports for storage and destruction in accordance with
Library of Virginia requirements
3. Outreach/Other Duties
• Assist with the development of educational & marketing programs
• May participate in local health fairs, assist in health screening clinics and
arrange for follow up care
• Address transportation needs with community resources, monitor
appointment attendance and compile materials in native languages
• May be required to perform other duties; may include functions in support of
an emergency declaration

This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the FAMIS grant for a one-year period ending June 30th of each year. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter. Employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-general funds.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to prepare required pre-clinic paperwork to maintain clinic flow, assist
with labeling and packaging lab specimens
• Good interpersonal relations skills including cultural sensitivity
• Office experience with public contact, keyboarding, filing & organizing own
workload, working knowledge of computer applications
• Experience in health fairs and other community activities
• Ability to communicate with other agencies, assist clients to overcome barriers
to treatment and maintain accurate records and reports
