Are you seeking a leadership role in the field of environmental justice and community outreach and engagement? The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has a career position available in our Office of Environmental Equity (OEE) that will align with your career goals and skill sets. The OEE Public Participation Manager (SSMI) is responsible for leading, coaching and overseeing the work of a dynamic, multi-discipline team performing outreach and engagement, and networking in diverse, disadvantage and marginalized communities in the DTSC Berkeley office. This essential office supports public engagement and outreach in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California.

As a Staff Services Manager I you will have the opportunity to:
  • Manage, train, coach, and guide staff in the performance of community relations, outreach, public participation, and engagement functions
  • Organize and coordinate the activities of the OEE Berkeley Unit, including, but not limited to: initiating and managing workload; establishing expectations and goals for the unit, monitoring progress, and analyzing effectiveness
  • Provide expert consultative services to the Department's Program management on the public participation outreach and engagement activities associated with the most complex sites
  • Serve as the OEE liaison for Departmental project teams, and workgroups providing information and participating in discussions and solutions to ensure decisions are made in a timely manner while establishing and maintaining an environment of collaboration and trust and belonging
  • Coordinate with other organizational program staff, responsible parties, consultants, Environmental Justice community groups, networks and organizations, key stakeholders, and federal, state, and local officials regarding associated project activities to establish team participation and work towards common goals

  • Ability to apply an "equity-minded lens" and approach regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB)
