The Public Relations Specialist assists the Public Relations Coordinator in maintaining effective public relations with the media representatives and the community. The primary focus of the Public Relations Specialist will be to create quality content using established graphic design skills and publish timely information on the OCS Social Media accounts and school websites. The Public Relations Specialist will work under the direction of the Public Relations Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, Marketing, or Communications.
  • Skills: Advanced graphic design knowledge using InDesign and Adobe Suite, experience in photography and video production, and established knowledge of multiple social media platforms.
  • Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
  • Effective human relation skills.
  • Professionalism, dedication, and flexibility.
  • Previous experience preferred but not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with schools to keep each school website updated with photos, videos, and content.
  • Create social media graphics and videos.
  • Develop and post informative and appropriate content to OCS social media accounts.
  • Develop a social media plan that is updated frequently to adhere to platform changes and needs of the school system.
  • Assist with development and implementation of overall marketing strategies for the school system.
  • Assist with production of digital and print PR materials.
  • Assist with photography at school events.
  • Write feature articles highlighting teachers, programs, students, organizations, etc.
  • Assist with press releases as needed.
  • Submit photos and information to local community publications prior to deadline each month.
  • Research information regarding Opelika City Schools and recommend ideas to improve rankings on realtor sites and school review sites.
  • Manage the OCS Wikipedia pages to keep them updated with information and current photos.
  • Build and maintain a media list.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
