WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

MCDOT is seeking a Public Service Craftsworker I for its Division of Parking Management . The job location for this position is at 1200 Spring Street, Silver Spring, Maryland.

Employee will be responsible for performing a wide variety of general maintenance tasks involving construction, maintenance, repair and alteration of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, public parking facilities and parking lots. Additional duties also include general maintenance to sprinkler systems. Employee may lead a work crew performing the above-mentioned general maintenance tasks. Employee must have knowledge of skilled trades practices, including independent work layout and judgment in carrying out written work orders and skill in the use of and ability to use and maintain hand and power tools and equipment common to the work assigned. This position involves some scheduled and unscheduled overtime or schedule changes in order to accomplish work.

Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions are characteristic of work in this class. The employee regularly exerts medium physically effort, such as pulling, pushing, lifting, carrying, moving or positioning work objects or tools weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally exerts heavy physical effort, such as lifting, carrying, positioning and using equipment and materials weighing eighty (80) pounds to one hundred (100) pounds or more and obtains assistance or uses mechanic advantage, as appropriate. The employee, by working close to heavy traffic or on roofs or scaffolding, operating power tools/equipment and/or being around

moving machinery, is exposed to hazards that require constant awareness, special safety precautions to safeguard the worker and use of some safety equipment/clothing, including safety shoes, hard hats, ear protectors and/or respiratory masks. At times, work is performed outdoors where the employee could be exposed to severe weather, grease, dirt and muck for digging and working amid run-off, storm drains and catch basins, asphalt and other bituminous products, noxious or malodorous fumes, high levels of dust and similar unpleasantness and discomforts.

WHO WE ARE SEEKING:

The ideal candidate should be skilled in multiple trades and always produce quality work. The candidate will be good at trouble shooting problems and independently laying out own work needs for material, tools, and equipment.

WORK SCHEDULE:

The work schedule will be Thursday through Monday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Employees in this class may, at times, be required to work a different shift that could include holidays.

The individual selected for this position will be considered an Essential Employee. Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

All employees are required to drive a vehicle to perform maintenance field work.

All applicants possessing the minimum qualifications will be scheduled to participate in a written/skills examination. The written and skills examination are tentatively scheduled to be held in April - May 2024.

Minimum Qualifications

Education : Completion of high school or possession of a High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Experience : Four (4) years of experience performing building maintenance tasks, building/structural maintenance tasks, repair and alteration involving the application of any building maintenance trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.).

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements :

At Time of Employment Application: Applicant must possess and maintain at all times a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence.

First Day of County Employment: Based upon the type of equipment being operated, employee must possess and maintain at all times either a valid Class "A" or Class "B" (or equivalent) Commercial Driver's License or a valid Instructional Permit for a Class "A" or Class "B" (or equivalent) Commercial Driver's License from the applicant's state of residence.

Upon Completion of Probationary Employment Period: Based upon the type of equipment being operated, employee must possess and maintain at all times either a valid Class "A" or Class "B" (or equivalent) Commercial Driver's License from the applicant's state of residence.

Preferred Criteria

There is no Preferred Criteria for this position.

All applicants who meet minimum qualifications confirmed by OHR will be scheduled for a skills examination and a written examination. Based on the results of the examination, applications will be rated "Did not Pass," "Qualified ," or "Well Qualified." The highest rated applications will be placed on the Eligible List. In accordance with Article 8 of the MCCGEO contract, should an internal application be selected, selection will be made by seniority. Applicants will be notified of the test via email.
