Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Division of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine is to provide the best clinical care available for patients with lung disease and associated medical illnesses in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We feel that this care can best be delivered within the VCU Health System. Our mission is further to provide the best teaching of lung disease and associated disorders to future physicians. Finally, we strive to explore critically important lung and vascular and metabolic diseases through organized research.

Chief Purpose of this position: The chief purpose of this recruitment is to hire a qualified physician who will maintain a practice in Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine to include 12-hour shifts, covering hospital and clinic.

Position Responsibilities:

Clinical: Time and effort shall be devoted to the provision of clinical services. You are expected to maintain a practice in Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine to include 12-hour shifts, covering hospital and clinic. You are expected to integrate students and residents into this service. You will be provided the necessary space (clinical and office) and clerical and nursing support to carry out your duties. If you presently are engaged in a practice with "claims-made" malpractice coverage, you may need to arrange for tail coverage upon termination of your policy.

Research: Although this position has no specific assigned research responsibilities, reasonable scholarly activities, such as publications, presentations at national meetings and participation in appropriate academic organizations, are expected.

Teaching: Time and effort shall be devoted to teaching and teaching-related activities. This shall include medical students, dental students, graduate students, allied health students, residents, fellows, and colleagues where appropriate. Teaching responsibilities also shall be considered to include preparation of instructional materials, evaluative materials, testing and maintenance of personal professional skills through continuing education, advising and mentoring trainees, and participation in academic reinforcement programs.

Required Qualifications:
  • Virginia Medical Licensure
  • Board Certification or Eligibility in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
