Who We Are:

The Dimensional Inspection Group is a diverse team of Quality Engineers, Scientists and technicians supporting programs and projects in multiple technical divisions across the Institute, including Space Science and Engineering, Defense and Intelligence Solutions, Chemical, Mechanical and Automotive Engineering.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Responsible for performing mechanical inspections, support calibration of mechanical inspection equipment, and documenting inspection measurements using numerous types of dimensional measuring equipment and MS Office applications.
  • Advise mechanical fabrication team concerning potential improvements to aid machining and inspectability.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Operating a CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine); Conducting dimensional inspections of machined parts using hand tools such as micrometer, dial gauges or pin gauges.
  • Review and update process documentation as required, such as drawings, inspection reports, non-conformance reports.
  • Work with project personnel to maintain project target dates and provide a product that meets or exceeds expectations.


Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Quality Assurance Inspection certifications are a plus.
  • Shift work required.
  • 2-5 years: Knowledge of mechanical measurement tools and the ability to operate dimensional tooling (caliper, micrometer) and to learn advanced measuring technologies (use of Coordinate Measurement Machine).
  • Experience in the field of quality assurance as an Inspection Technician or inspector, including reading/interpreting drawings and CAD models.
  • Experience operating Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and supporting project quality assurance requirements by performing QA, QC, verifications, and quality activities to determine acceptability of mechanical parts and assemblies
  • Interpreting mechanical drawings.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (i.e. ISO 9001 or similar) is preferred.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
