Position Summary: Works under direct or indirect supervision of an imaging technologist in performing diagnostic procedures, Clerical and Transport duties.

To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.ECHNICAL SKILLSRequires critical thinking skill and decisive judgement. Ability to work under the direction of imaging technologist. Organizes and prepares exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, and maintaining equipment. Verifies patient identification using two identifiers and communicates with patients to explain procedures, obtain clinical history, confirm acknowledgment of patients' understanding and address any questions about the imaging procedure.Assists patient in preparation for exam and transferring patients to and from exam rooms. Independently transports patients to other areas of the facility as required.Uses the radiology computer systems to generate requisitions, check schedules, and obtain pertinent patient information. May NOT activate the exposure switch for diagnostic or fluoroscopic procedures.Ensures that images and other patient records are accurately documented, following approved workflows, in Med Host, Rad Partners, and PACS in a timely manner. May NOT independently review and approve images.THROUGHPUT/EFFICIENCY/INITIATIVESeeks and recognizes work to be done, reviews patient order in its entirety, matching information to the correct procedure, plans environment in the best interest of patient and their safety, uses free time constructively (minimizing delays), is enthusiastic to learn.COMMUNICATION AS TECHNOLOGISTListens and communicates effectively with patients, radiologists, medical staff, nursing staff and nursing supervisor. Responds positively and openly to suggestions, follows direction, retains, and integrates suggestions, communicates in a team building manner, shows respect for those around them (patients, providers and coworkers).RADIATION AND MRI SAFETYFollows established radiation safety guidelines ALARA in reference to time, distance and shielding. Understands and maintains safety guidelines for MRI. Coordinates care as appropriate in these environmentsPATIENT CARE IN IMAGING ENVIRONMENTExhibits patience and empathy to work with patients, refers to patient by name, explains procedures to put patient "at ease", recognizes and meets patients needs, aids the patient into position through proper communication. Keeps assigned area clean and orderly maintaining supplies to the room. Is careful with the equipment cleaning between after each patient.

Qualifications

Minimum EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent - Required.Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology. 2nd Year Student.

Required SkillsAnticipated completion, as verified by program director, from a Radiography program that is accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT.Successful completion and documentation of clinical competencies and associated academic course work in the following areas: Patient Care and Basic Radiation Safety and Protection.Must possess good communication and patient care skills.Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Certifications:Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association required within 30 days from hire.
