GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Under the direction of the Chief Radiation Therapist and Lead Radiation Therapist, the Radiation Therapist Clinical Assistant is responsible for assisting the clinical radiation oncology team (physicians, nurses, radiation therapists, medical assistants, and administrative assistants) with tasks that are required to maintain operations of the Radiation Oncology department. This position assists in patient support services related to patient care coordination, check-in process, patient radiation treatment preparation, transport, maintenance of the inventory of department supplies, and administrative quality assurance checks as assigned.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Works with radiation therapist to assist in efficient daily operations and patient workflow.

2. Prepares rooms with proper equipment & immobilization devices.

3. Assists radiation therapist with patient positioning, moving, and lifting during radiation therapy treatments.

4. Transport inpatients to and from Radiation Oncology department.

5. Ensure treatment rooms and clinical rooms are properly stocked with supplies and laundry.

6. Administrative support

• Answers phone calls and assist with scheduling of patient appointment

• Assist with patient check in proce

• Assist clinical staff with patient care coordination

• Assist with Chart Checks and Billing Compliance

7. Transport materials to and from the Radiation Oncology departments.

8. Monitors and replenishes the department's stock and linen supplie

Any other related duties as directed by Lead and Chief Therapist

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

1. Demonstrates understanding of Universal precautions, aseptic technique, hand hygiene and maintains cleanliness of exam rooms and equipment.

2. Provides safe patient care.

3. Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal professional relationships with physicians, management, peers, patients, and their families.

4. Must convey a positive attitude and present a professional appearance.

5. Must have effective communication (both oral and written) skills sufficient to resolve conflicts, and relay information concisely to staff, patients, and other hospital personnel.

6. Must have sufficient organizational skills.

7. Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, keeping track of details and following through to completion within specific time limit

8. Familiarity with office equipment; photocopy machines, computers, printers, and facsimile

9. Knowledge of medical terminology.

10.. Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

11. Technical proficiency (i.e., internet, email, computer-based searches)

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED:

  • Highschool diploma or GED


PREFERRED:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Some college or Associates Degree
