SUMMARY

Hennepin Healthcare has a current opening for a Radiation Therapist in our Radiation Therapy department. This full-time position will work from 7:00am to 4:00pm. Under limited supervision, provides concise, accurate radiation treatments to patients and provides the patients and their families with social and educational support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver or ensure the delivery of the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy
  • Observe patient for reactions and physical change events and report same to nursing staff and/or physician
  • Assist with emergency procedures as required
  • Assist in conducting patient education
  • Ensure radiation safety measures for patient and personnel
  • Maintain supplies for assigned area as needed
  • Assist in quality control checks of equipment, including machine warm up, trouble-shoot any malfunctions and call outside service when necessary
  • Maintain patient records and charts including accurate documentation of treatment delivered and
  • consistent directions and treatment information for future reference
  • Perform point calculations
  • Collect dosimetry information for computer planning
  • Cut and pour custom blocks as assigned
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of professional standards for technical staff
  • Assist in development of new techniques, educational demonstrations and problem solving
  • Perform accurate, well-planned simulations of therapeutic interventions
  • May assist in filing, scheduling, chart maintenance, and off ice organization
  • Perform data entry to the hospital and department computer systems including radiation therapy
  • charges and record and verify system data accuracy
  • Implement downtime procedures when computer systems or equipment fails
  • Instruct radiation therapy students in radiation procedures and techniques
  • Follow recommended guidelines of the nuclear regulatory commission (NRC) A.L.A.R.A. program
  • Must be available for on-call assignments, as needed
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards
  • Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees
  • to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team interdepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a radiation therapy program accredited by an approved recognized organization
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as a Radiation Therapist or board eligible
  • Maintains minimum ECE credits as mandated by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
