Main Purpose of Job

This position is a Lead Technician for the Eastern Service Region that performs installation, removals, maintenance & repairs to the agency's radios, speed control devices, in-car camera systems, body cameras along with servicing multiple interoperability communication systems (subscriber, transport & infrastructure) that also include the installation, repair and maintenance of transmitters, receivers, fiber optic, voice data transport equipment, microwave and interoperability sub-system equipment in accordance with Federal Communication Commission Regulations. Technicians at this level lead work of at least one subordinate technician and provide technical guidance and training to lower level technicians. Employees receive general supervision from a Radio Technician Supervisor or a designated Administrator.\n

POSITION DUTIES

Performs installation,\nremovals, maintenance of mobile & portable radios, base stations,\ncommunication consoles, remote control units along with other. technologies\nsuch as in-car cameras, speed control devices, in-car. computers, voice logging\nrecorders and body worn cameras. Performing. advanced radio programing\nutilizing multiple software programs.\n�\nResponsible to lead\n& guide subordinates in performance and routine maintenance of specialized\ntechnical equipment such as speed control systems, radio, video, and\ncommunication sub-system repairs.\n�\nLeads and oversees\nshop cleanliness (Ex. dusting/mopping) workload schedules, recording and filing\nof all agency records such as capital equipment, maintenance records, shop\nrequisitions and helpdesk tickets for each shop within the area of\nresponsibility. Communicates effectively with individuals listed under Part II,\nSection 3. Performs duties of Area Supervisor in their absence.\n�\nProvides maintenance\n& repairs to communication equipment at remote tower sites, including\nequipment used for radio communications, fiber equipment. Orders and maintains\na sufficient number of parts and supplies for repair & maintenance\noperations of the assigned ESD shop(s).\n�\nMaintains the accuracy\nof all electronic test equipment within specified limits by the manufacture and\nthe Federal Communication Commission\n�\n(CC). Ensures that all\nelectronic test equipment certification is current and proper documentation is\nmaintained.\n�\nProvides training and\ntechnical guidance to all technicians and functions as a lead technician on a\nregular and reoccurring basis.\n�\nOther duties and\nassignments assigned by command.\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:�� Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\nExperience: Seven years experience in the repair of electronic communications equipment, six years must have included the repair of two-way FM radios.\nNotes:�\n1. Candidates�may substitute�the successful completion of a one year program of study in radio electronics at a recognized training school, trade school, or college for up to one year of the required general experience.\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Electronics Technician (Communications) classifications or Signal Corps, Aerospace Maintenance, or Data/ Communications Maintenance specialty codes in the aviation communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred\nQualifications:\n\n\n1. Five years of\nexperience (maintenance and installation) with voice audio transport circuits\n(DSO) dealing with microwave, fiber optics and T1 backhaul.\n\n\n2. Experience with P25\nLand Mobile Radio.\n\n\n3. Experience\nperforming maintenance on P25 Communication Console System.\n\n\n\n4. Experience\nperforming repairs/maintenance on any radar and/or laser emitting equipment.\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
  1. Applicants for this classification may be required�to possess either a Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator license, a FCC�Ship Radar Endorsement, a National Association of Business and Educational Radio certificate, or an Associated Public Safety Communications Officer Incorporated certificate. If required, the applicant must list their license or�certificate number and expiration date on the application.\n2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required�to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of�Maryland.\n

Candidates for this classification may be given a medical examination to determine their ability to perform the duties of the job classification.\n
