Departmental Overview

The Berkeley Center for Responsible, Decentralized Intelligence (RDI) is a multi- disciplinary campus-wide initiative, focusing on advancing the science and technology of decentralization and decentralized intelligence, to make it universally accessible and empower a responsible digital economy. The RDI Center currently includes faculty and students from computer science, finance/economics, and law, and will support 3 pillars: research, education, and community / entrepreneurship.

Research areas include foundations for next generation decentralization technologies including scalability, usability, provable security guarantees, auditable privacy, incentive compatibility, systemic stability, and decentralized systems and intelligence, decentralized governance, and responsible innovation / regulation guidance, etc.

Besides advancing the science, technology and education in this space, responsible innovation is a key aspect of the Center's mission and goals, where the Center will explore new approaches for analyzing and understanding the societal impact of decentralized systems, and help ensure that decentralization technologies will be used in a responsible way to help protect the welfare of individuals and society, protect privacy, level the playing field and empower innovation, promote fairness, inclusiveness, ethics, and explore legal frameworks to support innovation and regulation compliance.

RDI will continue to build upon UC Berkeley's strong foundation and leadership in these areas, as recently recognized and noted below:

#1 computer science graduate program
RDI will also act as a hub and platform for collaborations globally with other organizations and researchers, as exemplified in leading the first Decentralized Finance MOOC with thousands of students enrolled from over 30 countries. In addition, RDI embraces Open Source, given the spirit of web3 and decentralization technology, and work funded by RDI will in general be in the public domain as publications and open source code.

The RDI specialist lead aids in the management of key stakeholders for Berkeley RDI, creating databases and assisting in communications, assisting in implementation of programming, and providing logistical support.

This is a 15% FTE (part time), 1-year contract position.

Responsibilities

30% Coordinates meeting logistics especially as relevant to alumni, donors, industry partners, and speakers working with RDI. With input from management, researches industry contacts and speakers at notable events, who are relevant to RDI's work.

25% Under direct supervision, assists in implementing communication strategies designed to inform alumni and other key stakeholders. Stakeholders include the general public interested in RDI areas of work, prospective students, students, alumni, and donors. This includes communications on Twitter, MailChimp and Medium covering alumni teams successes, industry partner events and related news. Reviews and condenses information from alumni and other key stakeholders into appropriate communications for RDI social platforms and other communications.

25% Under direct supervision, assists in implementing programs, specifically research of industry and academia speakers relevant to RDI events and activities.

20% Aids in developing and maintaining a database system on speakers and stakeholders listed above.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Organizational skills including skills to meet prescribed deadlines.
  • Written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including tact and political acumen to effectively represent the institution to a variety of constituencies.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Applicable computer skills.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $27.00 to $36.00 hourly. This is a part time (15% FTE), 1-year contract position and is not eligible for benefits. This position is paid biweekly.
