Job Description

The Receptionist /Administrative Assistant is a highly visible position in the School of Communication and is the first point of contact for phone, email, and in-person correspondence with the School. This position will interact with members of the university community and with individuals and organizations from outside the university. Additionally, the Receptionist/Administrative Assistant supports school operations. The ideal candidate is well organized, has strong interpersonal skills, and is an effective oral and written communicator. This position will report to the School of Communication Business Manager.

Required Qualifications

• Experience doing reception or related work, providing administrative support in a business environment, and working in a high volume, fast-paced, service-oriented office.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral). Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and use independent judgement.
• Ability to work independently and with other members of an administrative team.
• Experience using various Microsoft Office software products to include Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher in office administration, business management, secretarial sciences, or related area, or equivalent education, training, or work experience.
• Knowledge/experience working with BANNER, HokieMart, ChromeRiver, and TimeClock Plus.
• Experience working with faculty in a research or academic environment, working knowledge of higher education business practices; knowledge of university policies and procedures.
