Clarification from the agency

U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. Territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.

Duties

  • Works under general supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as a Recreation Assistant.
  • Instructing groups and individuals in a variety of outdoor programs, such as but not limited to rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, challenge course.
  • Using a variety of teaching methods to effectively communicate to participants who have a wide range of abilities and backgrounds; teaches children as well as adults.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED training certification.
  • If water rafting is part of the duties, satisfactory completion of required Raft Guide Training must be completed within three weeks of appointment.
  • Requires irregular schedule which includes, but is not limited to days, nights, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

Must have knowledge of and experience in a wide variety of Outdoor Recreation pursuits.

Highly Preferred:

Applicants pursuing a degree in Recreation Management, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field, and in the process of completing an internship or fieldwork program will be considered highly qualified.

Applicants meeting ALL criteria will be considered the best qualified and will be referred to the selecting official first.
