New Mexico Department of Health's Turquoise Lodge Hospital is a facility that provides substance abuse treatment services to New Mexico residents. We specialize in medical detoxification, social rehabilitation services, and Intensive Outpatient services.
Our Recreation Therapy Section provides comprehensive recreational therapy services to the patients of the facility.
Why does the job exist?
This position exists to assure that therapeutic recreational activities, within an established recreational program at a residential treatment center, are implemented as a part of resident's treatment plan.
How does it get done?
This position will oversee the planning, organizing and directing of recreational activities.
Who are the customers?
Adults who present with substance misuse and co-occurring disorders and staff of Turquoise Lodge Hospital.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in:
- Being a self-starter and able to work independently but work well with a team;
- Working in a residential treatment facility and a therapeutic Milieu;
- Working in recover-oriented and /or trauma-informed-care environments;
- Being familiar with basic medical terminology.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
Employment Requirements
This position is designated safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment is subject to nationwide criminal background check and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training is required.
Working Conditions
This position may work in an office setting using related office equipment, with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Pushing, pulling, lifting and/or carrying one-hundred plus (100+) pounds with assistance may be required. May be required to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
