Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Recreational/Vocational Programmer/PSR Tech Lead to assist in the development and implementation of training/therapeutic interventions within the psychosocial treatment program and to provide community recreation programing and vocational training available to all clients of Western State Hospital.

This position will plan and conduct 12-14 hours of psychosocial rehabilitation interventions per week, according to approved schedules; assist supervisor in planning, organizing, and evaluating classes for community recreation programs; supervise 4-8 hours per week of instruction for clients in vocational training; assist in completing of Canteen functions, which includes food preparation, sanitation, use of the cash register, grill, and fryer; maintain documentation and statistics of attendance of community recreation programming; and attend at least 6 hours of in-service training per year.

Minimum Qualifications

- high school diploma or equivalent
- valid Virginia Driver's license
- demonstrated understanding of the principles and practices of recreational activities
- ability to assess, plan, supervise, and evaluate recreational programs for effectiveness
- experience modeling positive and collaborative behaviors
- ability to adapt to various demands and demonstrates a willingness to learn
- ability to walk repetitively walk, visually observe and report changes in a patient's behavior on a continuous basis; ability to bend, lift, and reach overhead to position, restrain, transfer, transport, or escort clients and to assist clients to perform activities

Additional Considerations

- college courses in recreation, leisure, vocational, recreational therapy, or in an occupational therapy field
