About the Agency:

The Mission of the Virginia National Guard Commonwealth ChalleNGe Youth Academy is to intervene in the lives of 16-18 year old teenagers by providing the values, skills, education, and self-discipline needed to produce responsible, productive citizens, and to do so in a highly structured learning environment.

Purpose of Position:

Executes a recruiting strategy that ensures that there is awareness of the academy across the Commonwealth and that eligible candidates receive information and apply for enrollment into the program in sufficient numbers to maximize bed capacity and sustain the funded target for our graduates. Additional key responsibilities include the planning and organization of class pre-briefings (pre-screen procedures and trips), class in processing, and media/public relations required to market the program.

Job Duties:

Conduct 15 orientations in the assigned geographical area with 3 Families per orientation;

Conduct 50 High school visits;

Conduct 2 Detention center visits;

Participate in 15 Open House events;

Collect and review all applications and supporting documents completely before the Admission Review Committee;

Schedule unbiased interviews by the counseling staff for every applicant assigned;

Provide acceptance packets and or denial letters in a reasonable amount of time;

Update Twitter & Instagram with ads/cadet pictures & life stories;

Prepare bi-weekly special newsletters for distribution to schools.

Minimum Qualifications

Superior verbal communication skills, including the ability to address large diverse audiences;

Ability to write clearly and succinctly, including skills for designing and producing written communications in the form of applications, brochures, and advertisements;

Skilled in creating brochures, newsletters, and editing pictures to include designing posters;

Ability to apply good customer service, telephone etiquette related to program marketing and recruitment;

Skilled in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office (proficient), and WordPress;

Must be available to work weekends, travel overnight, and drive throughout the state of Virginia to recruit applicants;

Must be flexible with work schedule;

Experience in military or corporate recruiting and marketing background;

Web and digital media design experience;

Valid Virginia Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required.

Additional Considerations

Previous experience working in admissions in an academic setting;

Experience managing a social media account for a company or organization;

Fluency in Spanish preferred.
