The Regional Medical Director for Care and Value (C&V) is a key member of the leadership team who shares responsibility for decision-making and outcomes around affordability and utilization programs and metric performance. The C&V RMD is involved in strategic leadership, organizational direction and operational support for all affordability performance activities throughout the Florida Organization. Working in collaboration with Market Medical Directors, employed clinic Medical Directors and other cross-functional team leaders, actively leads discussions to identify best practices and provides education to improve patient outcomes and strengthen performance for our population. This role will support WellMed Florida and Optum Florida in achieving affordability and utilization targets.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership, administrative support, management support and strategic planning direction to the Care Management department and Network management department in conjunction with cross-functional team leaders
  • Develops and maintain a collegial relationship with physicians (employed and contracted) in order to support the affordability efforts of the organization
  • Drives consistent, efficient processes and shares best practices with enterprise and regional leadership to meet or exceed affordability targets
  • Support Care Management initiatives around Hospital Steerage, use of value-based care hospitalists and development of a SNF network to name a few
  • Support Network Management in development of a local network for care providers
  • Act as a FL liaison and champion for rollout of new processes and initiatives. Also, represent FL on regional and national calls around affordability as needed
  • Drives improvement of performance indicators by identifying, directing, and executing continuous quality improvement activities or processes
  • Work cross-functionally with leaders from Quality and Risk Adjustment in order to drive high-level performance across all pillars of value-based care for our organization
  • Perform education for both clinicians and non-clinicians around affordability programs and how to best improve performance and overcome barriers to success
  • Leads the short and long-term planning process and drives prioritization to meet the enterprises goals
  • Participate in work groups and committees (internal and external), as needed
  • Collaborates with Market Operations staff in the market(s)
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.)
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in applicable state(s), or ability to obtain licenses rapidly
  • Current Board Certification
  • 5+ years of clinical experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of managed care experience, preferably in a value-based care environment
  • 3+ years of experience with IPA/Contracted networks in a value-based care environment with Medicare Advantage membership
  • 3+ years of experience as a Medical Director

Salary Range is defined as total cash compensation at target. The actual range and pay mix of base and bonus is variable based upon experience and metric achievement. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
