Unit Highlights

Patients treated on this unit commonly present with\rthe same disease processes seen on the medical and intermediate care units but\rare considered critically ill due to the monitoring they require, and/or their\racuity of illness. The Intensive Care Center (ICC) at Medstar St. Mary's\rHospital is not a specialized unit, meaning that a variety of disease processes\rare seen, including but not limited to: vascular surgery, orthopedic and\rnon-orthopedic general surgery, NSTEMI, sepsis, shock (hypovolemic, septic, and\rcardiogenic), stroke (including patients who have received thrombolytic\rtherapy), respiratory compromise or failure, renal failure (including those\rrequiring continuous renal replacement therapy), and heart failure. Patients\rthat are admitted to MedStar St. Mary's hospital requiring mechanical\rventilation and titration of critically ill medications will typically receive\rnursing care in the ICC. We receive patients from the emergency department,\rmedical floors, and directly from the OR/PACU. The ICC will also take medical\roverflow patients, based on the needs of the hospital. Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse you will deliver proficient nursing care to patients and families whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex. You will identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations and critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.

Qualifications
\r

\r
• ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
\r
• Prior Clinical Nursing Experience preferred.
\r
• Active MD RN License or Active Compact State RN and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required.
