A Dialysis Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing care to patients undergoing dialysis treatment. The following is a general job description for this role:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess and evaluate patient's condition, including vital signs, fluid and electrolyte balance, and access site for dialysis.
Administer medications, including antibiotics and other treatments, as prescribed by physicians.
Monitor patients during dialysis and assess for adverse reactions, making necessary interventions to ensure patient safety and comfort.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team, including physicians, dietitians, and social workers, to provide comprehensive care for patients.
Educate patients and their families about the dialysis process, treatment options, and self-care management.
Maintain accurate and complete patient records, including treatment plans and progress notes.
Perform dialysis machine setup, operation, and maintenance, as well as quality control checks and equipment sterilization.
Respond to emergencies and implement proper infection control procedures.
Participate in quality improvement activities and continuous professional development to enhance nursing practice.
Requirements:
Active license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or equivalent.
1-2 years of experience in dialysis nursing or critical care nursing.
Knowledge of dialysis principles, procedures, and equipment.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
