General Responsibilities

To deliver clinical and non-clinical education content to the organization by serving as an expert via the
UAB Medicine Learning Management System (HealthStream/LMS). To write and update education
policies and developing tools to ascertain staff acquire the appropriate skills and competencies to perform
their duties and document appropriately. Working collaboratively with the Clinical Development
Specialists-Ambulatory (CDS-A), to provide learning technology support with web-based/online delivery of
educational content to include developing and packaging, webinars, screen demos, interactive eLearning
courses and live classes. To ensure appropriate learning system assignments, tracking, reporting, and
recordkeeping of employee education. To provide oversight for the UAHSF Alabama Board of Nursing
CE Program.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Delivers educational content through LMS administration. Provides course development, course
publishing, course assignment, course reporting, and data entry. Primary focus is on clinical
education. Utilizes strong working knowledge or clinical and non-clinical requirements for the
creation of profile student groups. Collaborates and provides guidance to department leaders who
provide criteria from departments. Collaborates with HR colleagues to gain and maintain a strong
working knowledge of departments and job titles with the UAB Medicine entities. Utilizes and teach
others on the use of the HealthStream LMS (course development, course publishing, course
assignment, and course reporting). May assist with classroom lectures, laboratory practicums, and
training sessions. Provides opportunities for ongoing professional development. Collaborate with
CDS-A, professional organizations and internal clinical groups to ensure the clinical staff are on the
leading edge of practices. Collaborates with ambulatory leaders and CDS-A in the writing and
updating education policies and develops tools to ascertain staff acquire the appropriate skills and
competencies to safely and accurately perform their duties.
2. Assures orientation, annual training requirements and content for staff based on regulatory,
certifying agencies and organization requirements are available to staff in a timely manner. Follows
and assists with updating policies related to orientation, training and competency requirements.
Knowledgeable of UAB Medicine orientation flow and processes. Provides oversight for group
assignments for orientation, annual training and ad-hoc, custom assignments.
Responds quickly to UAB Medicine Orientation and HSF Training email accounts for orientationrelated email which has a high level of email traffic during virtual and online orientation. Works
collaboratively with LMS Institution Administrators from UAB Hospital, UAHSF, UAB Health System
and Callahan as well as the Office of Regulatory Affairs in creating a schedule for annual regulatory
training. Provides educational support for experts responsible for acquiring and maintaining
certifications for UAB Hospital or other UAB Medicine entities. Assists with the overall
implementation of UAB Medicine Orientation by assisting with and troubleshooting assignments in
the LMS. Develops and implements clinical orientation that meets the needs of the organization
and its regulatory agencies in collaboration with the CDS-A.
3. Provides support through reports, projects, service requests and implementation of new learning
system products. Oversees tracking, reporting, and recordkeeping of education metrics. Works
collaboratively with other LMS analysts. Participates in projects and provides consultation and
expertise to project teams. Supports other systems courses, programs, and special projects as
necessary. Replies to service requests in medicinelearning@uabmc.edu account and
uabmedorientation@uabmc.edu. Coordinates with other team members and prepare for
implementation of new applications and updates to existing functionality. Assists user training and
education for users in the operation of new system applications. Provides on-going user
educational support for enhancements to existing applications. Assist users in maximizing use of
the LMS to increase efficiency.
4. Coordinates continuing education activities to meet requirements for job, re-licensure and
recertification of staff. Serves as the point of contact for nursing continuing education programs
approved under the UAHSF Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) Provider Status. Upholds the
integrity of the program in approving courses, providing consultation, maintaining CE records,
uploading CE data in a timely and efficient manner to the ABN, and following ABN guidelines and
UAHSF policies for implementing our ABN CE Program. Assists with maintaining the UAHSF
Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) CE provider status as directed. This includes, but is not limited to,
assisting with preparing policies and procedures and compiling report data to the ABN as
requested. Assist staff with CE audit by the ABN in a manner which upholds the integrity of our
provider status. Collaborates with other clinical staff to provide opportunities for CE credit to meet
license or other certification requirements as requested including but not limited to Pharmacy,
Radiology, Sterile Processing Technicians and Medical Assistants. Assists staff in locating
resources needed to obtain other required training as requested (such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP
or Chemotherapy Recertification).
5. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and metrics for the department. Openly
and effectively communicates opportunities for improvement at staff meetings with Learning System
Mgmt Administrator and co-workers; follows the PDCA methodology. (Plan, Do, Check, Act).
Collaborates with the manager in the development and tracking of quality indicators. Participates in
department metrics (measures used to indicate progress or achievement) as directed.
6. Remains committed to personal and professional growth. Meets and maintains current
certification/licensure and continuing education requirements. Provides documentation of
continuing education focused on acquiring or expanding knowledge/skills. Shares knowledge and
skills through professional presentations. Participates in professional organization/s. Participates in
specialty training, webinars and user groups related to the learning system. Develops action plan to
work toward personal development and professional growth in areas of need to excel in this role.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and (5) five years related clinical experience, including three years of
training experience with adult learners in nursing or the healthcare industry required. Work experience
may NOT substitute for education requirement. Master's Degree in Nursing or other Healthcare-Related
field preferred. Successful hands-on experience with online learning systems, program development,
webinars via Zoom or other technology; and working with electronic files and network drives preferred.
Experience writing and approving CE classes for nurses and other healthcare professionalspreferred.

Licenses / Certifications / Registrations

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be
obtained within 30 days of employment.
Certification in Nursing Professional Development from the American Nurses Credentialing Center
preferred.
