Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, is primarily responsible for professional performance and direct patient care.

The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the health care continuum.

The registered nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality and fiscal patient care outcomes using the model of care designed by the nursing department and in accordance with established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines and standards of practice

Reports to the unit nurse manager.

Requirements

At least 24 months as an MED SURG TELE RN in a hospital setting

Basic computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information.

Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with various members of the health care team, patients, and families.

Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work

Education:

Graduate from an accredited nursing school, associate's or Bachelor of Science degree program; BSN preferred.

Certification & License:

Licensed to practice professional nursing as a registered nurse

Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS

*** 1. Unit Name: Davenport 8.

2. Brief Unit Description: Davenport 8 is a thirty-seven (37) bed medical telemetry unit. Patients may be admitted from the E.S., transferred in from other units within the hospital or directly admitted by a physician. We oftentimes have patients on Cardizem drips, Nitroglycerin drips, Lasix drips and Heparin drips. We also take care of Post pacemaker and post Cardiac Cath patients both with and without interventions. We also take NSTEMI patients

. 3. Years of Experience Required: 2 years.

4. Floating Required: Travelers are required to float to applicable units when needed.

5. Rotating Shifts Required: Day Rotators may be rotated between (7a-7p, 11a-11p or 7p-7a) when needed. Rotation frequency is usually low. Night positions do not rotate.

6. Skill Sets Required: Travelers should have knowledge on cardiac drips and be able to interpret Tele Strips. Nursing care for patients post cardiac catheterization and pacemaker is needed but not required.

7. Clinician to Patient Ratio: The RN to patient ratio on day and evening is 1:4 max of 5. The night shift is 1:5-6. Day shift on weekdays includes a Charge RN without a patient assignment.

8. Patient Population: Davenport 8s primary diagnosis is CHF, Atrial Fibrillation, Pulmonary Embolus and pneumonia. We also have patients coming in for with ETOH, dementia with Cardiac co-morbidities. Sometimes, we also occasionally admit surgical patients if the other units do not have a bed.

9. Bed Count: 37 beds. The unit has ten semi-private rooms, 1 quadruple rooms, 1 triple room and ten private rooms. D8 has one negative pressure room.

10. Census: 37.

11. EMR (Charting System): EPIC.

12. Certifications Required: Travelers must have an active ACLS & BLS certification; must be Telemetry certified.

Certification: Basic Life Support , Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
