We are seeking a HEMODIALYSIS PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN in Wausau, WI at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in our busy Dialysis department.

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a member of the patient care team and is responsible for assisting with providing patient care under the general direction of a Registered Nurse. This person works side-by-side with an RN to set-up dialysis machines, cannulate, start, monitor, and end dialysis.

Hours: Full Time or 0.8 FTE, 64 hours every 2 weeks. Day/PM shifts and rotating every other Saturday. 8/10/12 hour shifts. The department opens at 5am, closes at 7pm.

Experience/Qualifications
  • Knowledge of patient care standards and practices normally acquired through completion of a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CCHT (Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Tech) certification or obtained within 18 months of hire. This includes continuing education credits/CEUs needed to maintain applicable certification.
  • Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of principles of aseptic techniques.

Beneficial, not required:
  • Completion of a nursing assistant course.
  • Graduation from an accredited program for Health Unit Coordinators, or training/education to meet job requirements.
  • One year of experience as a nursing assistant in an acute care setting.

Possesses knowledge and ability to:
  • Implement emergency, fire, and disaster protocols.
  • Implement safe and effective infection control procedures in accordance with the unit's policies and procedures.
  • Utilize the occurrence reporting system in accordance with guidelines set forth by the unit.
