Responsibilities

Location: Surgical Services - Saint Marys Campus, Nasseff Tower 3 OR - General Pediatrics/Ophthalmology/Oral Maxillofacial/ and Resource for Pediatrics Anesthesia-GI-Dental-Procedures

The Registered Nurse (RN) Communicator works closely with the surgical team to provide current communication and support to the family/significant other of patients undergoing a surgical intervention. The RN Communicator effectively and accurately, under the direction of the surgical team, transmits appropriate patient related information regarding the patient progress to the family/significant other from the operating room setting. The RN Communicator communicates with the patient's family/significant other to reinforce, educate, and explain information regarding the patient's surgical procedure, the surgical process, and other related information. The RN Communicator is responsible to help support the patient's family/significant other through varied stages of the grieving process. The RN Communicator acts as a liaison between Surgical Services and the Nursing Care Units, coordinating information related to the patient's surgical procedure to aid in a smooth transition of patient care across the continuum.

This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Holders of F1 status eligible for post-completion OPT are welcome to apply. This role is NOT eligible to participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited, or those in the candidacy process, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA, at least one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is required.

All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020, and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.

All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.

Additional Qualifications:

One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is preferred.

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.

Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS - certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.

• American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)
• Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)
• Military Training Network

Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
