Summary

The University of Michigan, regionally and nationally known for its commitment to providing high quality, family-centered patient care seeks bachelors prepared Graduate Nurses for our Medical ICU (CCMU) Internship program, starting June 6, 2024.

This is a 16-week internship program which prepares Graduate Nurses for a Registered Nurse position in the MICU. Orientation includes a combination of classroom and precepted clinical experience. A two (2) year commitment to the department is required after completion of internship. The initial 16 weeks will rotate day and night shifts. Night shift assignment will occur after successful completion of internship.

Salary range for Registered Nurses $38.26-$59.35 / hour
  • Please note that Internship programs will take a 5% reduction in the hourly rate until orientation is completed.
  • Evening Shift Differential- $3.00 per hour
  • Night Shift Differential- $4.00 per hour
  • Weekend Differential- $2.90 per hour
  • Evening Shift Weekend Differential- $5.90 / hour
  • Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour
  • Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 per hour

Responsibilities*

A 20-bed unit with critically ill adult patients. Patients medical diagnoses commonly include respiratory insufficiency or failure, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), hepatic failure, renal failure, sepsis, coma, hypertensive crisis, GI hemorrhage, endocrine/electrolyte imbalance and cancer/bone marrow transplant patients who are experiencing complications.
Utilize the nursing process to provide primary care to critically ill medical patients/families who experience a wide variety of complex, multi-system health problems and to participate in health activities.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Graduate Nurse Internship positions will take a 5% reduction in the payrate until completion of Orientation.

Required Qualifications*

  • The candidate must be a Graduate Nurse or newly licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan who has not yet practiced as a Registered Nurse.
  • Candidate must have successfully completed an accredited BSN program.
  • Successful Completion of NCLEX exam prior to June 6, 2024.
  • Must be available to start internship on June 6, 2024.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills are desired.
  • ICU experience is desired.
  • Overall GPA of 3.5 or higher is preferred


Work Schedule

Hours: 36 hours per week
Shifts: Night shift, 8 and 12 hour shifts
Location: University Hospital; 6D, Critical Care Medicine Unit

Note:All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
