The Department of Mental Health at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is seeking an experienced and dynamic nursing professional to serve as the Shift Coordinator.
Please note: This is a full-time (40hr/week) evening shift position, 2:45PM- 11:15PM with alternating weekends off. Days off: Week 1: Mon/Sat, Week 2: Sun/Fri.
Employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory overtime.

Agency Mission: The Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental health Center, (Fuller) 60 bed inpatient psychiatric facility provides comprehensive, information and timely forensic evaluations for individuals to determine pre-trial competency and or criminal responsibility. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility and (B) of which at least two years must have been in a supervisory, administrative, or managerial capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.* No substitutions will be allowed for the required (B) experience.
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing .*
*Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
Special Requirements: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.

- Develops and maintains a milieu that is calm and safe where interactions between patients and staff and among staff are respectful and grounded in the principles of person centeredness.
- Assures that each patient is assigned to an appropriate nurse who is accountable for nursing care decisions and integration of the interdisciplinary plan of care within one business day after admission.
- Contribute to the in the review and development of protocols around patient care and nursing practice.
- Collaborates with other health care professionals to identify, address, and solve individual unit/care issues.
- Ensures that the appropriate number of staff are available to provide safe and effective care daily. • Implements progressive disciplinary action according to hospital policy. •
- Maintains a safe environment for patients/staff while executing daily operational activities necessary for effective functioning of unit and hospital. •
- Provides unit-based orientation to nursing and other care providers regarding organization and operation of the unit and the role of nursing patient care management.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to lead a group of workers.
- Capacity to maintain a calm manner in stressful and/or emergency situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.
- 3+ years of supervisory experience.
- Prior charge nurse experience.
- 5+ years of experience working with individuals with acute mental illness.
