Job Summary

Assists professional nursing personnel by performing tasks involving direct and indirect patient care, treatment and maintenance of the nursing unit. Works with pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Works effectively and cooperatively within the workplace. Location/Department specific tasks and competencies may apply. Essential Functions

Accurately and timely documents in patient records, as per established protocols. Accurately collects and documents patient specimens. Complies with SRH infection control policies and ensures a safe environment for self and others. Admits, discharges, and transfers patients as per established policies and procedures. Correctly places telemonitor on patient; changes batteries, cleans unit upon discharge of patient and returns to Telemonitor Tech. Provides a thorough, concise report at change of shift. Communicates pertinent information to the appropriate person in a timely manner. Obtains O2 set reading and reports to RN. Correctly records and calculates I & 0 including the cumulative totals and weights. Assesses patient needs and communicates them to RN. Responds appropriately in all code situations as per established policies and procedures. Performs bed making, bathing, vital signs, mouth care, feeding, catheter care, colostomy care, and other duties within scope of practice as assigned by RN or Designee. Alerts RN of any variances in patient's condition. Assists patients utilizing mobility aids; uses fall precaution program; matches activity to tolerance level in conjunction with the RN and institutes post-op mobility programs. Maintains ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software applications to perform work. Communicates effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Actively contributes to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities. Completes all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Maintains current registration and/or certification as required. Attends and actively participates in all department, team and/or committee meetings. Complies with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.

Education

High School diploma or GED required.

Experience/Training

Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant-Certified training program.

License/Certifications

Current Washington State Nursing Assistant registered required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) healthcare provider BLS certification required. Obtain Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification within 6 months of hire.

Other Skills

Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications to perform work. Well-developed problem solving skills required. Must be able to effectively prioritize workload amongst frequent interruptions with competing priorities. Knowledge of the healthcare environment preferred. Ability to coordinate work schedule with requirements of position (may include overtime and weekend work).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
