Job Summary:
The Rehab Aide will support clinicians with patient care, administrative tasks, and custodial duties to optimize patient care and the treatment environment. This position will function under the direct supervision of Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Speech Therapists, and Speech Therapy Assistants.

Job Summary:

This position will function under the direct supervision of Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Speech Therapists, and Speech Therapy Assistants.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs the following clinical tasks following direction/delegation by a Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist, or Speech Therapist:
- Prepares and performs recreational activities with swing bed patients
- Applies superficial heat/cold modalities
- Performs therapeutic exercises with patients
- Performs functional mobility with patients
- Prepares patient and treatment area for treatment session
- Assists in providing educational materials for patients
- Assists scheduling for inpatient/swing team as required
- Escorts patients
- Stocks linen.
- Maintains treatment and waiting areas.
- Monitors availability and need for servicing of equipment and initiates appropriate action.
- Performs daily, weekly and monthly equipment inspection, maintenance, and logging.
- Maintains Materials Management upper-store inventory.
- Cleans and sanitizes patient care areas and equipment.
- Reviews inventory and orders supplies as needed.
- Assists with answering phone, photocopying, faxing, scanning and mailing as required.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information in accordance with Hospital policy and applicable statutes and regulations.
- Provides timely communication to supervising therapist regarding possible or current issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required for the Position
Knowledge:
- Knowledge/understanding of universal precautions.
- Must be able to effectively instruct patients in exercise/self-help techniques.
- English language proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and typing is required. Bilingual preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to demonstrate empathy/compassion for patients.
- Ability to recognize an emergency and respond appropriately.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Requires lifting, prolonged positioning, pushing, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and/or transferring of patients.
- Ability to stand for an extended period (greater than 4 hours).
Credentials and Experience Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Previous patient care experience preferred.
- Current, valid driver's license required.
Special Requirements
- Must travel between the hospital's main facility and the offsite outpatient rehabilitation clinic.
- Must be available to work in the case of a Hospital declared emergency.
