Job Description

  1. Obtains equipment, materials, and supplies from storage areas and positions them appropriately for use. Assembles and disassembles equipment or accessories and assists in adapting equipment for patients.
  2. Prepares equipment such as hydrotherapy tanks, paraffin baths, and hot packs by filling tanks, checking and adjusting temperature controls, and setting automatic timing devices.
  3. Assists in routine treatment procedures and other therapeutic activities, including, but not limited to, hydrocollator packs, whirlpools, infrared, range-of-motion tests, progressive restive exercises, and general conditioning exercise programs, under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
  4. Assists therapists in positioning patients in, at, or on equipment, devices, or treatment tables and by showing, aiding, and working with patients in hospitals or treatment centers designed to accomplish rehabilitation. Observe patients undergoing therapeutic exercises and other types of treatment.
  5. Assists in providing prescribed treatment through the use of hand and/or equipment. Adjusts wheelchairs, braces, crutches, and canes.
  6. Prepares, maintains, and clears up treatment areas and maintains supportive areas.
  7. Assists in self-help therapy, helps patients walk, or uses a wheelchair or stretcher to transfer patients to and from wards or the waiting room before and after treatments.
  8. Transports patients to treatment or activity areas and assists patients in preparations at the end of treatment or activity.
  9. Participates in supportive and maintenance treatment programs, including assisting patients with daily living chores.
  10. Participates in activities involving routine and repetitive subprofessional work in recreation therapy and/or orienting patients on necessary skills for reinforcing daily living in appropriate therapy areas.
  11. Guides patients in activities including but not limited to arts and crafts, social activities, gardening, woodworking, graphic arts, textiles, group recreation, and the utilization of various tools and equipment. Assists in developing interest and maintaining morale.
  12. Observes patients' activities and make reports.
  13. May perform functions and activities of the primary Nurse's Aide in support of the above tasks.


Minimum Qualifications
1. One year of satisfactory experience as described in "Job Descriptions" in a hospital, health care or medical facility; or
2. One year of satisfactory experience in providing non-professional nursing or medical support services in a hospital, health care or medical facility and satisfactory completion of a training program responsive to the level of the prescribed duties. Also, the following:
3. Ability to establish successful interpersonal relationships with patients and co-workers.
4. Good knowledge of methods and procedures used in applying rehabilitative, physical or occupational therapeutic treatment.
5. Good manual dexterity.
6. Ability to effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
