Health Sciences Library- Memphis, TN

The Health Sciences Library at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is committed to providing outstanding service in the ever-changing environment of academic medicine, healthcare delivery, and biomedical research. As we move forward, the Health Sciences Library will evaluate our policies and services as we work to increase our contribution to the campus. We are currently seeking an energetic, service and team-oriented and collaborative professional to join our Research & Learning Services (RLS) department. The RLS Librarian will report to the Assistant Director for Research & Learning Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides in-person and virtual reference services and research consultations to the members of the UT Health Science Center community.
  • Delivers library instruction sessions and works collaboratively with faculty to plan and deliver course-integrated instruction as needed.
  • Serves as a liaison to specific academic colleges or departments to identify faculty and student needs, to solicit input on library collection development, and to provides customized library services for colleges or departments to create a library environment conducive to student success.
  • Develops and maintains library research guides in support of campus research, educational, and patient care services.
  • Participates in planning, policy and procedure formation, and decision-making relating to library services, collections, and technologies.
  • Participates the library efforts to promote and marketing library resources and services.
  • Participates in professional activities and professional development.
  • Manages or assists with special projects.


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements for Screening Purpose:

  • Master's degree in library/information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an equivalent graduate library science/information studies degree.
  • Basic database searching and teaching skills and experiences.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of information literacy.
  • Knowledge of technology tools, including mobile devices and web applications.
  • Ability to communicate (written and verbal) with a broad range of health professionals, students, and peers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a strong service orientation.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science discipline.
  • Experience working in academic library setting or with an enthusiasm for the health or life sciences.
  • Experience with health sciences database searching (e.g., PubMed utilizing Medical Subject Headings).
  • Teaching experience.


BENEFITS

University faculty appointment: This is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track faculty appointment. Faculty rank will be at the level of Instructor or Assistant Professor depending on education and experience.

Salary is commensurate with education/experience. $60,000 minimum for the candidate with the required education and experience.
