Job Summary
The Department of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan, School of Public Health (UM) is seeking a Research Area Specialist Lead to join multiple projects in LGBTQ+ health equity, specializing in transgender and gender diverse population health, led by Dr. Sari Reisner. The projects are focused on HIV prevention, mental health, community-engaged research methods, and the social and contextual factors that shape health and contribute to health inequities.
Responsibilities*
Project oversight: Oversee administrative and financial aspects of multiple research projects. Monitor multiple budgets by tracking monthly expenses and drafting budgets for new projects. Lead project planning in collaboration with PI. Supervise research team, including research staff, temporary employees, and students, delegating work, providing training, and evaluating performance.
Study design and implementation: Design and implement data gathering tools. Oversee all aspects of data collection. Troubleshoot recruitment and enrollment issues with research staff. Monitor integrity of data collection and use of protocols and procedures.
Data management: Lead data management effort, including data cleaning, documentation, and data storage.
Data analysis: Design and execute complex data analyses. Interpret results, including creation of data tables, visualizations, and reports for presentation to the study team.
Manuscript preparation and dissemination: Contribute to the writing of scientific manuscripts as co-author or lead author for publication. Collaborate in the development of conference abstracts, presentations, and other reports. Participate in grant writing, IRB submissions, and preparation of reports for funding agencies.
Other research duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
Doctorate degree in epidemiology, public health, or a related field required. 7+ years of experience. Strong record of peer-reviewed publications. Experience programming and applying advanced statistical methods in epidemiologic research (R, SAS, SAS/SQL, SQL). Detail-oriented with excellent validation and documentation skills, high-level of personal initiative (motivated, self-starter). Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in teams. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and achieve deliverables. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong leadership skills; prior experience supervising research staff and trainees preferred.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .

This position is term-limited for one year, with possibility of extension based on funding and performance.
