Job Summary

An opportunity for a Research Lab Specialist Lead is available in the Ono lab in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist to lead research on the cellular, molecular, and immunological functions of a novel transcription factor, nuclear factor, X-box-binding (NFX1). We currently use cell models to study the effects of under- and over-expression of the protein products to help understand the roles for NFX1. Future studies will expand to animal models. to help identify tissue and systems-specific functions. This will be a great opportunity for an experienced scientist to develop experimental models and execute experiments using those models. The research environment encourages collaboration as well as independent research.

Responsibilities*
  • Development of cell and animal models and apply innovative techniques.
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research projects that align with the goals of the lab. This includes development of the research plan and experimental design, execution of experiments, data analysis and presentation to lab members.
  • Provide training in laboratory procedures to members of the research team. Identify and resolve experimental concerns.
  • Remain current with scientific literature.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals including writing, editing, and figure production in collaboration with project members.
  • Present research, written and orally, at professional meetings.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of research findings.

Required Qualifications*

Lead Level - Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years of related experience, i.e., published in a field of specialty and academic knowledge in a field or discipline.

Senior Level - Bachelor's Degree and 5-6 years of related experience, i.e., published in a field of specialty and academic knowledge in a field or discipline.

Desired Qualifications*
  • PhD in biological science and/or an MD with a minimum of 6 years experience with training in immunology and molecular biology
  • Extensive experience with tissue culture, including immunological cell lines and primary human cell culture; molecular biology techniques including multiplex PCR, immunohistochemistry and immunoblot analysis; histology.
  • Expertise with immunological techniques including flow cytometry and ELISAs
  • Expertise in fluorescent microscopy
  • Proficiency in mouse injections and surgical techniques
  • Work is expected to be performed in person
