Job Summary

The University of Michigan Injury Prevention Center (UMIPC) seeks an outstanding candidate with expertise in utilizing web-based platforms for research. We are seeking a dedicated Research Area Specialist Associate to join our team to assist the Injury Prevention Center with support of a web-based platform that allows a more efficient and personalized way to monitor concussion recovery. One platform that we're currently hosting is called Recoups. The Research Specialist will play a crucial role in the planning, implementation, and management of research studies using the ecological momentary assessment (EMA) platform. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and technological proficiency.

This Research Specialist will work closely with the UMIPC team, web-based platform support team, commercialization team, and client/collaborative research teams. This position will serve as the point of contact for research projects using a web-based platform, conduct training, and provide and maintain study-specific materials (i.e., user guides). Collaborate with study teams to create project-specific symptom inventories and provide administrative access. Liaison between the study teams and platform support to identify and fix errors. This position will also assist with the commercialization of the platform; this could include attending training, networking events, and gathering feedback from potential clients and current users to outline the commercialization pathway, plan platform modifications, and identify opportunities for partnership and collaboration. This position could include data analysis and presentation of scientific data at scientific meetings and involvement in publications.

Responsibilities*
  • Coordinate and manage research studies utilizing the web-based EMA platform.
  • Point of contact and liaison for web-based remote symptom monitoring platform
  • Engage with external partners and provide technical support for using the web-based EMA platform across multiple projects.
  • Work closely with the UMIPC team to ensure adherence to study timelines and milestones and identify opportunities for collaboration and platform growth.
  • Adhere to research protocols and ethical guidelines throughout the data collection process; ensure IRB and DUA requirements are met for the collaborative projects utilizing Recoups.
  • Collaborate with the research team to report findings and insights from the administering Recoups at scientific meetings and conferences and disseminate findings in publications.
  • Support other research project needs such as creating and maintaining study-specific materials (i.e., user guides), managing payments to participants, working with Recoups data, drafting project reports, attending and participating in study-team meetings for various projects internal and external to U-M, and other duties as defined.

Required Qualifications*
  • Minimum three years of relevant work experience with complementary associates or bachelor's degree
  • Familiarity with web-based technology, preferably in studies involving EMA or similar methodologies, is highly desirable.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic research environment.
  • Proficiency in using technology and troubleshooting basic technical issues.
  • Understanding of research ethics and confidentiality principles.
  • Ability to complete U-M's Responsible Conduct of Research & Scholarship (RCRS) Training online course (estimated time to complete the course is 2.5 - 3 hours) or provide verified current certification.
  • Follow the approved research protocol and apply good research practices to ensure participant welfare and researcher safety, as well as document and report issues.
  • Previous experience in community-based research projects, preferably in studies involving EMA or similar methodologies
  • Proven experience in conducting research activities in community settings.
  • Familiarity with data management and statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, STATA, SAS, R) is a plus.

Work Locations

The position is hybrid, with requirements for in-person work in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the Injury Prevention Center, North Campus Research Complex

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Additional Information

This is a three-year term-limited position. (Duration: Sept 1, 2024 - Aug 31, 2027).

At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
