Job Description

The research assistant for the Dietary Assessment Laboratory will assist with preparing research diets (i.e., food preparation) to meet study specifications, dishwashing and cleaning, dispensing research diets and interacting with study participants, and supervising study meals. The research assistant must be detail-oriented, reliable and responsible, flexible, and be able to work independently.

Required Qualifications

• ServSafe Safe Food Handling training certification and a certificate of training in Human Research Participant Protections (https://www.research.vt.edu/sirc/hrpp/training.html) is required.
• Dietetics educational background, minimum at the junior or senior undergraduate level.
• Experience in conducting human-based research projects.
• Prior food service experience, especially related to preparing food for controlled feeding studies.
• Prior experience with handling blood specimens and proper procedures for processing samples after collection.

Preferred Qualifications

Other required trainings that are needed before starting the position:
• Good Clinical Practice Training
• Blood Borne Pathogen Training
• Introduction to Biosafety Cabinets
• Biosafety for Research Labs
• Safe Autoclave Use and Verification
