The Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women's Hospital is seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to assist with multiple ongoing research projects led by a Principal Investigator in a part-time role. This position is based in Boston and is for a minimum of 5 hours a week and up to 15 hours per week pending project needs and timeline. The time commitment is a minimum of 6 months and up to 1 year, with possibly for extension.

Example project tasks include:

  • Validating electronic medical record (EMR) outputs through manual chart review of clinical documentation and notes
  • Data extraction and cleaning from EMR records
  • Performing statistical analyses in supporting software, using techniques for descriptive statistics as well as multivariable linear and logistic regressions, propensity score matching, etc.
  • Assistance with qualitative analysis and coding as needed
  • Preparing clear, high quality data tables for publication
  • Academic writing for preparation of manuscript to submission to peer-reviewed journals
  • Help set up and participate in regular meetings with PI and other team members for project and timeline updates
  • Pending funding and availability, additional assistance with IRB submission and updates, mixed-methods data collection, analysis, and academic writing on health and gender equity projects.


The RA will need to function well in both independent and team settings. S/he will be expected to be detail-oriented and organized, ensure that no tasks fall through the cracks, and anticipate issues to the best of his/her ability. The Principal Investigator will depend heavily on the RA to ensure that no projects are held up for reasons within our control. S/he must be able to juggle multiple tasks at once, be able to see tasks to completion, and overcome any administrative delays or barriers. S/he is expected to be a proactive member of the entire Division of Global Health Equity team and a key problem-solver. Outstanding writing skills is a plus, and experience with qualitative and/or quantitative analysis is helpful, though not required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform EMR data collection and management
  2. Assist in quantitative data entry and statistical analyses
  3. Assist in preparation of data tables as well as academic manuscripts
  4. Aid in the preparation of documents for any IRB updates, future submissions
  5. Assist in analyses of qualitative data (coding and analysis)
  6. Organize group meetings, including setting up conference calls and taking minutes
  7. Assist with project-related administrative tasks


Qualifications

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree is required, master's degree preferred. This is a perfect job for a person considering a career in the health professions or currently in graduate school.

Previous research experience is an asset, but not required.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:

  • Capacity to organize and manipulate large amounts of data
  • Familiarity with statistical programming software is required
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, and close attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings
  • Ability to work well with collaborators across a range of roles, countries and cultures
  • Must have exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Interest in research, public health, global health, health policy, economics, and/or medicine
  • Excellent English language (spoken and written) skills
  • Prior experience with IRB submissions or grant writing is desirable
