Job Summary

The University of Michigan-Flint is seeking a Research Assistant I (Temporary). This research is part of the DEI Centers Project: Exploring the History, Role of Student Activism, Administrative Leadership, and Fiscal Decisions in the Founding and Maintenance of Center for Global Engagement at the University of Michigan-Flint, led by Dr. Lisa Lapeyrouse and funded by the University of Michigan's Inclusive History Project.

Three objectives of this work are:
  • Research and document the history, role of student activism in the establishment of the Center for Global Engagement on the UM-Flint Campus
  • Research and document how changes in leadership and funding have shaped and reshaped the Center for Global Engagement's infrastructure, capacity, priorities and programming over time
  • Research and document the relationship between student's sense of belonging and the Center for Global Engagement

This position is from September 2024 through December 31, 2024 for approximately 6 hours per week. Work schedule will be determined after hire to account for a student's work schedule, if applicable.

Responsibilities*
  • Interviewing, collecting and organizing historical documents and materials
  • Preparing historical documents and materials for preservation
  • Instrument design
  • Qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
  • Presentation/dissemination of research findings

Required Qualifications*
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Research experience
  • Ability to work at the UM-Flint Campus (not a remote position)
  • Available at least 6 hours per week

Desired Qualifications*
  • Prior research experience
  • Demonstrate the ability to respect confidentiality
  • Knowledge of the Center for Global Engagement's mission, programming and patrons/clientele
  • Undergraduate student in good standing with the University of Michigan-Flint

Modes of Work

Onsite

The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan.
