Job Summary

The Department of Radiology is looking for a full-time Research Assistant to join Dr. Sun (Xiankai) Lab to support the research activities in the Preclinical Nuclear Imaging Laboratory of Radiology on developing imaging probes for early detection of biological abnormalities (e.g., cancer, diabetes, infection, and CNS diseases, etc.) using small animal models (mice and rats).

Preferred Experience and Education

• A bachelor's or master's degree in biology or Life Sciences.

• Willing to work with medical radioisotopes and lab animals in a multidisciplinary environment.

• Prior experience with molecular biology techniques (running gels, immunohistochemistry, immunoblots), medical imaging, and/or lab animal handling is a plus, but not required.

Experience and Education

• Master's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required. or

• Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and one (1) year research experience at level of Research Technician or equivalent. or

• Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and four (4) years research experience including two (2) years at level of Research Technician or equivalent. or

• High school graduation or GED and six (6) years research experience to include two (2) years at level of Research Technician or equivalent.

Laboratory Duties

• Manage the Lab (e.g., maintaining lab supplies, records, and working conditions of facility and instruments).

• Coordinate and work with the Animal Resource Center, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Radiation Safety Office, and the Environmental Health and Safety Office for animal protocols and compliance of research regulations.

• Establish and maintain animal disease models and handle small-scale mouse breeding.

• Maintain a cell culture lab and perform routine cell culture as needed.

• Perform molecular biology assays as needed.

• Provide technical assistance to researchers in the Lab.

Job Duties

• Performs more difficult scientific and medical research work in science areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.

• Constructs, assembles, and operates laboratory equipment and apparatus.

• Records and evaluates data obtained from work assignments for use in scientific papers.

• Collaborates with supervisor or other research personnel in preparation of scientific papers for publication.

• Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning procedures and implementation.

• Collects and organizes research data for project reports.

• May plan for, and provide working supervision to, the work of Research Technicians or other laboratory personnel of lower grade.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
