The Department of Research and Graduate Studies of the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine restricted Research Assistant Professor faculty position available, focusing on large animal disease investigations. This position will work primarily from the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) in Blacksburg, with occasional travel to one or more of the VDACS regional animal health laboratories (RAHLs) and farm travel for herd evaluation and sample collection. The primary job responsibility will be to provide disease investigation for the AAVLD accredited Virginia Tech Animal Laboratory Services (ViTALS) and VDACS. ViTALS, RAHLs, and VDACS diagnostic laboratories' combined clients include the CVM Veterinary Teaching Hospital, livestock and poultry producers, and veterinary clinics in the state of Virginia and surrounding states. The candidate will be joining a progressive department and college that have a strong microbiology-oriented faculty. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a strong record of accomplishments in microbiology that will complement the expertise of our existing robust microbiology program. The successful candidate will also contribute to the scholarship effort of the department. Evidence of research experience in the following areas is especially encouraged: toxicology, infectious diseases, diagnostic testing, and vaccine development.
Required Qualifications
-DVM or equivalent and Ph.D. in Microbiology, epidemiology, toxicology, or related field;
-Must possess laboratory skills
-Excellent interpersonal, Creativity, independence, and high motivation and good communication skills.
-Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
-Capable of working a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior research experience in the following areas: epidemiology, toxicology, infectious diseases,
diagnostic testing, and vaccine development.
- Experience in developing publications or experience preparing materials for proposal submissions
