Children's Research Institute

The Children's Medical Center Research Institute at UT Southwestern (CRI) is a nonprofit research institute built on the clinical expertise of Children's Health System of Texas and the scientific excellence of UT Southwestern Medical Center. Under the leadership of Sean J. Morrison, Ph.D., CRI has created a world-class research and training environment that is collaborative and inclusive. Job Summary

Children's Research Institute (CRI) is seeking a detailed-oriented and proactive Research Associate to work in the Moody Foundation Flow Cytometry Facility. Primary duties include providing high-quality flow cytometry service and support to CRI laboratories and to the UTSW research community. The Research Assistant will develop and maintain complex operations and analyses of samples in a research environment, operate flow cytometers, cell sorters and analyzers, and maintain equipment and quality control procedures. You will work closely with research scientists and assist in the training of new users.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in biological or physical sciences
  • 1+ years of flow cytometry experience preferred
  • Motivated, detail-oriented, and critical thinking skills desired
  • Ability to work well with researchers, engineers, and staff in a service-oriented environment under minimal supervision
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
Experience and Education
  • Masters degree with major coursework in field of assignment and three (3) years of laboratory experience including at least two years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent. OR
  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and four (4) years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent.
Job Duties
  • Recommends and/or initiates new or modified procedures and techniques based upon latest developments in assigned field or analysis of research data.
  • Performs computer programming for accumulation and analysis of research data.
  • Designs, constructs, repairs, or modifies electronic and/or mechanical equipment or apparatus used in experiments and research projects.
  • Instructs medical students, graduate students, residents, or other laboratory personnel of lower grade with respect to techniques, procedures, and equipment utilized in research or experiments.
  • Assists principal investigator and other professional personnel in writing of reports and papers for publication.
  • May provide working supervision to employees of lower grade engaged in performance of variety of difficult and complex laboratory work tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
