Job Summary

The Green Center for Reproductive Biology Sciences at UT Southwestern mission is to promote and support cutting-edge, integrative, and collaborative basic research, with a focus on signaling, gene regulation, and genome function. The Green Center fosters an environment of innovation, teamwork, and professionalism.

The Banaszynski lab is a core member of the Green Center. The Banaszynski lab is interested in the basic mechanisms of chromatin biology and gene regulation and how these processes are regulated during development and cell fate specification. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and scientifically curious Research Associate with strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills; experience with biochemical, molecular biology, genomics and animal research techniques is highly desired. This would be an excellent role for a staff scientist who would like to continue to advance their career in a stable lab environment.

Experience and Education
  • Masters degree with major coursework in field of assignment and three (3) years of laboratory experience including at least two years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and four (4) years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent.
Preferred Job Duties
  • Performs routine scientific research under guidance of higher-grade research staff; supervises lower-grade research staff
  • Assists in the collection of data, along with proper recording of research data
  • Recommends and/or initiates new or modified procedures and techniques based upon latest developments in assigned field or analysis of research data
  • Performs computer programming for accumulation and analysis of research data
  • Carries out routine tasks necessary for proper lab operation (e.g., mycoplasma testing, preparation of competent cells, aliquoting common reagents and buffers)
  • Maintains mouse colony, including genotyping and strain generation / maintenance and record keeping
  • Completes animal protocol reporting and protocol renewals as needed
  • Assembles, operates, and maintains various laboratory equipment (including freezers)
  • Designs, constructs, repairs, or modifies electronic and/or mechanical equipment or apparatus used in experiments and research projects
  • Collects quotes from sales reps for equipment maintenance or updates, including coordination with staff and sales reps to schedule repairs and maintenance
  • Instructs medical students, graduate students, residents, or other laboratory personnel of lower grade with respect to techniques, procedures, and equipment utilized in research or experiments.
  • Maintains important lab cold storage (e.g., liquid nitrogen cell storage, -80C and -20C cold storage)
  • Maintains supplies of commonly used lab consumables, chemicals, and enzymes, including placing orders on order sheet and picking up orders from storerooms on campus
  • Ensures that lab inventories are up to date
  • Ensures that lab protocols are up to date
  • Maintains up-to-date lab safety approvals
  • Maintains accurate lab safety records
  • Assists principal investigator and other professional personnel in writing of reports and papers for publication
  • May provide working supervision to employees of lower grade engaged in performance of variety of difficult and complex laboratory work tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
