Research Associate/ Data Analyst TEACH ME

National Institute for Student Success

The National Institute for Student Success (NISS) at Georgia State University is seeking a detail-oriented Research Associate (Data Analyst) to support data collection and analysis for the TEACH ME project. TEACH ME (Technology Enhanced Academic Communication to Help in English and Math) is a 4-year project funded by the U.S. Department of Education to study the impact of AI-enabled chatbots on student outcomes in introductory math and English courses at GSU. The Data Analyst will gather, analyze, and report on key data to evaluate project outcomes.

The Research Associate will be responsible for producing recurring and ad hoc reports relevant to the execution and evaluation of course level chatbots. They will generate metrics that will be used to evaluate program impacts, monitor student outcomes, and identify risk factors for student progression. The successful candidates will have experience analyzing and presenting data to a wide variety of stakeholders.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Collect, organize and help analyze administrative, survey, and learning management system data for the project and respond to data request from various stakeholders

• Assist with data tracking and reporting for project tasks, timelines, and deliverables including cleaning and merging large data sets

• Support the implementation of random assignment procedures for treatment and control groups and monitor fidelity of treatment implementation across course sections

• Develop population files for nudges to student populations. Develop queries against university data systems (warehouse and transactional systems) to provide supplemental data on chatbot participants.

• Create summary reports that give a descriptive analysis of data. Create and evaluate standard data tables for chatbot project. Communicate report content and analyses to various university stakeholders.

• Perform analyses using various statistical methods and techniques with a broad range of tools for data manipulation and visualization. Test, document and perform quality assurance on analyses generated in SQL.

• Support the preparation of data for research papers, presentations, and reports

• Ensure compliance with IRB protocols and consent procedures regarding data privacy and security

• Perform other duties as assigned to support the project's data and analysis needs

The Research Associate will also be responsible for producing reports on program metrics and communicating the data to various offices for analysis. This role will work with the project team to ensure fidelity of implementation.

Qualifications:

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

A highly-qualified candidate should possess:

• Strong ability in program assessment and data analysis.

• Proficiency in cleaning and merging large data sets.

• Demonstrated ability to work with multiple projects and prioritize tasks appropriately.

• Ability to present complex analyses to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Willingness to engage with stakeholders across a variety of programs.

• Familiarity with social science research methodologies.

• Experience in the use of a statistical package (e.g. SPSS, Stata, R, etc.)

• Experience executing SQL queries against enterprise data systems for data retrieval
