Job Summary

A Research Assistant I is available in the laboratory of Dr. Tuoqi Wu, whose laboratory https://labs.utsouthwestern.edu/wu-tuoqi-lab has several exciting projects related to 1) understand the molecular mechanism of T-cell stemness and T-cell exhaustion, 2) identify novel targets for improving the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy, and 3) understand age-associated defects in the T cell immunity.

Experience and Education
  • Master's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required OR
  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and one (1) year research experience at level of Research Technician or equivalent OR
  • Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and four (4) years research experience including two (2) years at level of Research Technician or equivalent OR
  • High school graduation or GED and six (6) years research experience to include two (2) years at level of Research Technician or equivalent.
Lab Duties
  • Provide general support to laboratory staff and PI. Maintain the laboratory and equipment in working and clean conditions.
  • Maintain laboratory compliance to safety regulations.
  • Collects, accurately records and analyzes data in conjunction with other research staff. Isolate, maintain, and culture tumor cells and T cells.
  • Genotype and phenotype mice.
  • Maintenance of mouse colony.
  • Previous experience with mouse handling is preferred.
  • Perform flow cytometric analyses.
  • Perform PCR and DNA cloning analyses.
  • Process cancer patient samples.
  • Order reagents and materials and oversee inventory.
  • Maintains laboratory records, supplies, samples in an organized manner.
  • Take part in lab meetings and present data.
  • Perform other tasks, as needed.
Job Duties
  • Performs more difficult scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
  • Constructs, assembles, and operates laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Records and evaluates data obtained from work assignments for use in scientific papers.
  • Collaborates with supervisor or other research personnel in preparation of scientific papers for publication.
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning procedures and implementation.
  • Collects and organizes research data for project reports.
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of Research Technicians or other laboratory personnel of lower grade.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
