Job Description and Duties

THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE. THE AMOUNT OF TELEWORK IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS BUSINESS NEEDS ARISE.

The Labor Market Information Division of the Employment Development Department is looking for a Research Data Specialist (RDS) I for the Northern California area.

The RDS I independently coordinates and performs complex statistical consultation and data analysis to accomplish the objectives and tasks of projects. The RDS I accomplishes these objectives through research protocols and use of various computer programs to obtain and analyze local and statewide labor market data. The RDS I utilizes data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to develop and maintain data tools. The incumbent must be able to clearly interpret, document, and present these findings to internal and external customers, partners, and management. The RDS I also serves as a resource for staff and will be the local point of contact for media, legislators, economic developers, workforce services, and community partners.

Under general direction, the incumbent will work independently to plan, organize, and conduct studies; develop training to build the capacity of staff and external customers (e.g., Workforce Services and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act partners); lead work groups to improve Labor Market Information Division products and services; prepare and deliver presentations; and attend meetings, conferences, and seminars on labor market information, the economy, and related areas. A valid California Driver's License Class C in order to travel between locations is desired.

Travel between work locations and to attend meetings statewide is required. Intermittent overnight travel required.
