The Research Data Specialist I (RDS I) has the primary responsibility of supporting the Department's efforts to improve the quality and consistency of developmental services data in case management and fiscal management systems. The RDS I plays a crucial role in identifying areas in which improvements are needed, including coding structure improvements, and working with the Department staff and regional centers to improve data quality and consistency. This position will assist regional center personnel with education, training, technical assistance, and monitor the progress toward benchmarks. This position will apply research methodology and techniques to the identification and measurement of data quality using a variety of analytical, statistical and mathematical procedures, data sources, and data formats. Data sources will include those from within and outside the Department.
This position is eligible to participate in DDS' hybrid telework schedule. Participation in telework is subject to DDS' guidelines.

Working Conditions
Onsite work is performed in an open-spaced, partitioned office environment. The office is located in a multi-story building in downtown Sacramento. Work requires the use of a personal computer 65-85% of time.

Department Information
The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities.
These disabilities include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

Special Requirements
The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be numbered in the same order as the following areas, typed in 12-point Arial font, single spaced, and be no more than three pages in length. Applicants who fail to answer the questions or submit an SOQ may not be considered.
Describe the tools you are proficient in for data analysis and visualization and provide an example. Describe a project where you assessed changes over time. What analytical techniques did you use? How did you communicate results? Describe your experience working with large, relational database systems. What is one challenge and how have you addressed it?
