R&D Technician Formulations

Summary:

The R&D technician will assist with the development of new products, reformulation and optimization of current formulas, processes, and materials. The R&D Technician is responsible for performing lab experiments, batch testing, formula evaluations, and periodic lab equipment management, with minimal supervision. This position requires a candidate that works as a team member with optimal time management skills in a fast paced high volume environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development of quality formulas, to meet all timelines, specifications, and requirements through bench experiments, testing procedures, and data analysis
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis on formulations using laboratory experimentation
  • Follow standard operating procedures on scientific significance, accuracy, safety, and record keeping
  • Maintain an accurate and organized laboratory notebook, including but not limited to: documenting actions, observations, results, conclusions, completing the table of contents, etc.
  • Evaluating alternate raw materials against controls, by completing side by side experiments and evaluating physical properties.
  • National brand evaluations - conduct comparison testing, record data, and generate summaries
  • Assist with sales sample requests and coordinate sample generation for quality control stabilities, third-party testing, safety testing, etc.
  • Provide technical support to lab personnel including but not limited to: Participating in blind triangle evaluations, assisting others with additional bench work/batch making, equipment function trainings, etc.
    • Exhibit team player qualities of cooperation and coordination; professional interaction in all business contacts
    • Present for work when scheduled is an essential aspect of the position; work hours may extend past normal business hours based of the immediate workload of assigned department
  • Compliance and enforcement of all company safety rules, procedures, and guidelines is essential and mandatory.

Education Requirements:

Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, or closely related field of study; or equivalent experience and/or training; or combination of 3 years education and experience

Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum 1 year laboratory experience (including college laboratory experience)
  • One year of professional laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Intermediate experience with MS Word, Excel, and Power Point reporting tools and all Microsoft applications
Competencies:
  • Basic chemistry lab equipment understanding is preferred
  • Excellent organizational skill required
  • Practical mathematical skills- percentages, conversions, ratios, data analysis
  • Able to report on project progress

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional laboratory and office environment. This role routinely uses standard laboratory equipment and standard office equipment such as hot plates, pH meter, viscometer, Ross miles foam height apparatus, mixers, balances, computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
