We have a clear mandate to ship products at scale. In particular, seemingly impossible products that define new categories that advance Meta's mission of connecting the world. The FRL Technology Engineering Team has the responsibility for taking breakthroughs in core technology and delivering them to market at scale, and our Camera Image Quality Team seeks a Camera Perception Engineer who will directly contribute to landing high performance camera tuning into Meta smart glasses camera. This is a full-time position.

Research Engineer, Camera Perception (PhD) Responsibilities


  • Develop and tune image processing pipeline for camera system

  • Conduct subjective and objective image quality studies to assist internal R&D projects

  • Evaluate and tune algorithm solutions to improve image quality for camera products

  • Design and develop tools, metrics and workflows to improve camera tuning process

  • Manage and report image quality deliverables to cross-functional team

  • Review and contribute to the overall camera system design


Minimum Qualifications


  • Currently has, or in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in the field of Image Processing, Color Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

  • Experience designing experimental methods and extracting data to answer complex questions

  • Experience developing simple automation/script/tools to assist camera development process

  • Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Strong interests in photography

  • Knowledge of image processing techniques, ISP blocks and mainstream computational photography algorithms for mobile camera product

  • Working knowledge or research of human perception and statistical analysis

  • Strong track record in cross-functional collaboration and communications

  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as CVPR
